Weekly Dispatches From the Frontlines of World Literature

📖 Asymptote Journal · July 19, 2026 · Owrang Weekly #12

This week’s Asymptote dispatch examines the persistence of literary life in Palestine and Bahrain amid war and insecurity. In Deir al-Balah, 56-year-old Palestinian bookseller Mohammed Saad has reopened part of his library inside a tent after his home and collection in Beit Lahia were largely destroyed. In Bahrain, literary gatherings have gradually resumed, including Dar Amana’s Zine Fest, Shamma Al Bastaki’s appearance at the Taormina International Book Festival, and tributes to Bahraini poet Ali Abdulla Khalifa. The report shows how books, poetry, and cultural gatherings can preserve hope, solidarity, and collective memory during times of crisis.
