Originally known as the Owrang Theater Group, Owrang began in 2015 under the direction of Sadegh Hatefi, in collaboration with Rokhand Gharavi and Adam Hatefi. In 2020 it was officially registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Sacramento, California.

Sadegh Hatefi, a renowned Persian actor, writer, and director and Owrang’s Theater Director, previously led the Iranian National Theater Group for many years and organized successful tours across Iran and Europe. Rokhand Gharavi, Owrang’s CEO, has worked as a television producer and editor for decades. Together, Hatefi and Gharavi have collaborated for more than thirty years, producing television series, staging theatrical productions, and organizing Iranian cultural celebrations.

From the very beginning, Owrang’s goal has been to attract and nurture young talent in the Sacramento area, encouraging them to take part in a diverse range of artistic endeavors, particularly the performing arts, to help preserve the Persian language and culture among the new generation of Iranian Americans.

Today, alongside the theatrical work on which Owrang was founded, the Owrang Echo podcast (with its radio plays and poetry readings), the Owrang Weekly (Peyk), the Quarterly, and Owrang Publishing all work to build a shared language between cultures, creating a space where artists far from their homeland, wherever on earth they may be, can continue their creative work within this shared cultural and artistic landscape.

دربارهٔ اورنگ

هنر مرز نمی‌شناسد.

بنیاد فرهنگ و هنر اورنگ که در سال ۲۰۱۵ با نام گروه تئاتر اورنگ و به سرپرستی صادق هاتفی و با همکاری رخند غروی و آدام هاتفی آغاز به کار کرد، در سال ۲۰۲۰ به‌طور رسمی به‌عنوان یک نهاد غیرانتفاعی در ساکرامنتوی کالیفرنیا ثبت شد.

صادق هاتفی  بازیگر، نویسنده و کارگردان شناخته‌شدهٔ ایرانی و مدیر تئاتر اورنگ است، سال‌ها سرپرستی گروه تئاتر ملی ایران را بر عهده داشت و اجراهای موفقی در ایران و اروپا برگزار کرد. رخند غروی، مدیرعامل اورنگ، دهه‌ها به‌عنوان تهیه‌کننده و تدوین‌گر تلویزیون فعالیت کرده است. این دو بیش از سی سال با هم همکاری کرده‌اند و در این مدت، علاوه بر تولید مجموعه‌های تلویزیونی، نمایش‌های صحنه‌ای، جشن‌های فرهنگی ایرانی هم برگزار کرده‌اند.

از همان آغاز، هدف اورنگ این بوده که استعدادهای جوان منطقهٔ ساکرامنتو را جذب و پرورش دهد و با تشویق آن‌ها به مشارکت در فعالیت‌های گوناگون هنری، به‌ویژه هنرهای نمایشی، زبان و فرهنگ فارسی را در نسل تازهٔ ایرانیان آمریکایی زنده نگه دارد.

امروز در کنار فعالیت‌های تئاتری که بنیاد اورنگ بر مبنای آن شکل گرفت، پادکست اورنگ (پژواک اورنگ)  با نمایش‌های رادیویی و شعرخوانی، همراه با پیک و فصل‌نامه و انتشارات اورنگ ، می‌کوشند تا با پیدا کردن زبان مشترک بین فرهنگ‌ها بستری فراهم کنند که هنرمندانِ دور از سرزمین مادری، از هر جای کرهٔ زمین، بتوانند دراین جغرافیای فرهنگی- هنری به فعالیت‌های خلاقهٔ خویش ادامه دهند.
