In her journal on RogerEbert.com, Chaz Ebert writes about two documentaries she saw on the same day at the Toronto International Film Festival and calls both perfect. "Darlene Love: I Know Where I've Been", by Canadian director Barry Avrich, traces the singer's history under producer Phil Spector, who the film says deliberately kept her in the background so her talent would not outshine his production. Cher, Bruce Springsteen, Dionne Warwick and Paul Shaffer praise her voice on screen. Ebert reports that Love, at 85, came out on stage and sang with rich, strong vocals. "Once Upon a Time in Harlem" was assembled by David Greaves from 16mm reels his father William Greaves shot in 1972. The footage shows figures of the Harlem Renaissance gathered at Duke Ellington's home, among them Arna Bontemps, Richard Bruce Nugent, Aaron Douglas, Eubie Blake, James Van Der Zee and Ida Mae Cullen, widow of the poet Countee Cullen. Ebert also recalls interviewing William Greaves' granddaughter Liani Greaves at Rescue Fest in Los Angeles in December 2024, where IndieCollect founder Sandra Schulberg presented a restored copy of his film "Nationtime".
فیلم نخست، ساختهٔ بری اوریچ [Barry Avrich] کارگردان کانادایی، دربارهٔ دارلین لاو خواننده است و «I Know Where I've Been» نام دارد. فیلم دوم «Once Upon a Time in Harlem» است که دیوید گریوز از حلقههای ۱۶ میلیمتری پدرش ویلیام گریوز ساخته است.
