An Egyptian archaeological mission has uncovered three rock cut tombs of the New Kingdom period at the Bubasteion necropolis in Saqqara, southwest of Cairo. The first belonged to an official named Mentuhotep, shown in reliefs with his mother, and the second to a chief merchant of the Temple of Ptah. Inscriptions offer unusually detailed biographical information and fresh evidence of ties between Egypt and the Near East.
