Conductor Andrew Megill brought Baroque and contemporary music together in two programs at the Carmel Bach Festival. “Bach at Sunset” paired two cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach with Antonio Lotti’s Missa Sapientiae. “Nature’s Poet,” inspired by the writings of Rainer Maria Rilke, connected works by Bach, Frank Martin, and contemporary composer Stephen Andrew Taylor. The review praises the Festival Orchestra, Chorale, and Chorus for performances marked by precision, refinement, and a strong sense of unity.
