Andrew Yee’s Trans Requiem Gives Trans Lives the Dignity of the Form

🎼 SF Classical Voice · July 27, 2026 · Owrang Weekly #13

Andrew Yee’s Trans Requiem brings the traditional form of the Requiem Mass into the lived experience of transgender people. In her review, Tamzin Elliott describes a work in which grief, fear, anger, defiance, and humor give trans lives dignity and musical form. Yee performs alongside soloists Breanna Sinclairé and Katherine Goforth, with Melissa Attebury conducting the orchestra and choirs. The closing In Paradisum, traditionally assigned to a soprano, is instead written for a lower voice and performed by Goforth with steady grace. The album was released on July 17, 2026.
