The Louvre Reopens the Apollo Gallery, Without Its Jewels

The Louvre reopened its Apollo Gallery on July 22, nine months after thieves took French crown jewels valued at about 88 million euros in a daylight robbery. Visitors can see the gilded seventeenth century ceilings and decoration, but no jewels are on display. The museum says the gallery has returned to its original ceremonial purpose, and the remaining collection will move to a more secure space. The stolen pieces are still missing.
