Pardoner, ‘Target Practice’

In Bandcamp Daily's Album of the Day, Jennifer Kelly reviews Target Practice, the fifth full-length album by the San Francisco band Pardoner. Singers Max Freeland and Trey Flanigan share vocals over dense guitars, bass and drums. Kelly places the band near Husker Du, Pavement, Teenage Fanclub and Ovlov for its mix of hard and soft, sincere and sarcastic. She finds the new record more earnest than its predecessor, Came Down Different, though it keeps some self-deprecating charm. She points to the acoustic 'Performance', the harder 'We're Living in Violent Times', with verses about economic uncertainty, and the single 'Twisted', an off-kilter love song she compares to Paul Westerberg. The Auto-Tune on the title track puzzles her, but she praises the band's chaotic cover of the Barracudas' 'Changing Mags'. In her view the album balances loud guitar rock with poetic sensitivity and pleases without pandering, although the lyrics are often hard to make out. Photo by Daniel L.

جنیفر کلی در بخش Album of the Day نشریهٔ Bandcamp Daily آلبوم «Target Practice»، پنجمین آلبوم کامل گروه Pardoner از سان‌فرانسیسکو، را نقد می‌کند.
