Old-school digicams are everywhere. Why?

Compact digital cameras from the 1990s and 2000s are finding a new audience among teenagers and young adults. Compared with the sharp, heavily processed images produced by smartphones, their blurry, grainy, and sometimes overexposed photographs can feel warmer and more natural. For some users, the appeal is mainly nostalgic. For others, carrying a separate camera offers a way to avoid notifications and remain more present while taking pictures. The trend has driven significant growth in sales of point-and-shoot and screen-free cameras. It also belongs to a wider revival of older technologies, including iPods, CDs, Walkmans, and home-style camcorders now used by some wedding photographers. Beyond technical image quality, many people appear to be searching for photographs that feel intimate, imperfect, and closer to lived memory.
