Manetti Shrem Museum shows Italian couture from its namesake’s collection

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis opened 'The Gift of Fashion: From the Maria Manetti Shrem Haute Couture Collection' on Oct. 14. On view through Jan. 30, 2027, the show brings together seven couture gowns by Roberto Capucci and Dolce & Gabbana and jewelry by Dolce & Gabbana, Bulgari and Scavia, all lent from the personal collection of the museum's namesake. Among them is a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown with a sapphire peacock train that took more than 350,000 sequins and 2,700 hours of handwork; Manetti Shrem wore it as guest of honor at a San Francisco Opera Guild gala in 2025. She hopes visitors will see each handmade piece as a unique work of art. The exhibition is organized by the Maria Manetti Shrem Institute for Sustainable Design, Fashion & Textiles and guest-curated by design professor Tim McNeil and graduate student Maev Dunning. The institute opened in 2025 with a $20 million gift from Manetti Shrem, the largest gift to the arts in the university's history. Admission is free, Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Photo: Cullen328, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons.

Manetti Shrem

Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art در دانشگاه UC Davis نمایشگاه «The Gift of Fashion» را روز ۱۴ اکتبر گشود. Wikimedia Commons
