Veteran Iranian director Majid Majidi has won best film at the 31st Busan International Film Festival for Midday Meal, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The seven-member jury, led by Zhang Yimou, said its decision was unanimous. The drama follows Davoud Soulan (Mohammad Rahimi), a contract teacher in a remote village in southeastern Iran whose hopes of a permanent government post are threatened when a wealthy benefactor dies and the free lunches that keep his poor pupils in school disappear. Majidi cast non-professional actors found in the region and filmed against the stark landscape of Iran's so-called Martian Mountains. He dedicated the prize to the people of Iran. Under new Academy rules, Busan's best film winner can be considered for the international feature Oscar without being chosen by its home country, which gives the film a second route to the race, since Iran has already submitted Babak Khajehpasha's Land of Angels. Majidi made Oscar history with Children of Heaven (1997), the first Iranian film nominated in the category. Photo: Arielaortizb, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences، برندهٔ بهترین فیلم بوسان بیآنکه کشورش آن را برگزیند میتواند در رقابت بهترین فیلم بینالمللی Academy Awards شرکت کند و این راه دومی برای فیلم مجیدی است، چون ایران پیشتر «Land of Angels» ساختهٔ بابک خواجهپاشا را معرفی کرده است. Wikimedia Commons.
