AMC's Interview with the Vampire has reinvented itself for its third season, even changing its name to The Vampire Lestat as it adapts the second novel in Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles. The series hands its story to Lestat (Sam Reid), who, enraged by the unflattering bestseller written about him, sets the record straight the only way he can: by becoming a glam rock star, forming a band, and taking his version of events on tour. Where the first two seasons filtered Lestat through another character's memory, here he narrates his own life, no more reliably than before, in what RogerEbert.com's critic calls a wicked, charming, and dangerous gothic rock opera. The reinvention has drawn extraordinary praise, including a rare perfect critics' score and a place on several lists of the best television of 2026, with its music drawing on the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Jim Morrison. It is a striking example of how boldly a beloved literary adaptation can transform itself.
