Brittany K. Allen reports on LitHub that the first #LitMagWeek is under way and runs through Friday. The idea came from Brett Van Emst, editor and publisher of the online journal Midnight Mind, with support from the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) and more than 100 participating journals. Some magazines are offering discounted print copies and digital access and sharing their origin stories. Van Emst told Allen he wanted "something to showcase all the cutting edge things lit mags are doing". Allen highlights three magazines. N+1, founded in 2004 and based in Brooklyn, has a fall 2026 issue with Walker Caplan's short story "Attention", nonfiction by Mary Turfah and Colin Vanderburg, and an excerpt from Chad Harbach's new novel "The Brightness". Protean, an eight-year-old ad-free leftist magazine, has a forthcoming print issue with work by Hanif Abdurraqib, Ish Ibrahim and Bayan Haddad and an essay by Kate Wagner on Friedrich Holderlin. It is due Friday, with print subscribers receiving copies in November. The Toronto Review is a new, volunteer-run online journal centering Canadian voices. Its recent issues include an excerpt from Lucy Ives' new book and a Joshua Whitehead essay on Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick and indigenous literature.
Community of Literary Magazines and Presses Wikimedia Commons.
