Big Thief premiered its new album Horsepower in full during a private concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on August 22. The 29-song triple album features Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, and Iris DeMent, all of whom joined the band onstage. The expanded lineup also included Russ Pahl and Greg Leisz on pedal steel and guitar, along with fiddlers Hannah Read, Richard Bowden, and Zosha Warpeha. Photography and video were prohibited at the show, and although the band did not perform the album in its final sequence, all 29 songs were played. Several tracks had already appeared in Big Thief or Adrianne Lenker’s live sets, including Carry and Space and Time, which were performed during a Belgian Radio 1 field session in May. Horsepower follows Double Infinity, released in 2025 and the group’s first album as a trio. Big Thief will continue touring North America in support of Double Infinity next month, with the run ending at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver on October 6.
