About this work
In a remote Russian town, the mayor and his corrupt officials hear that an incognito inspector from the capital is on his way. They mistake Khlestakov, a broke, boastful young clerk stuck at the inn, for the inspector and shower him with bribes, flattery and even the mayor's daughter's hand; Khlestakov escapes, and at the very end news comes that the real inspector has arrived.
در شهری دورافتاده در روسیه، شهردار و مقامات فاسد خبر می‌شوند که بازرسی ناشناس از پایتخت در راه است. آنان خلستاکوف، کارمند جوان ورشکسته و لافزنی را که در مسافرخانه مانده، بازرس می‌پندارند و با رشوه و چاپلوسی و حتی وعدهٔ ازدواج با دختر شهردار از او پذیرایی می‌کنند؛ خلستاکوف می‌گریزد و درست در پایان خبر می‌رسد که بازرس واقعی آمده است.
