About this work

The old King Lear divides his kingdom among his daughters according to how much they profess to love him. Cordelia, who refuses to flatter, is cast out, and her two sisters leave their father homeless. Lear goes mad in the storm, while in the parallel plot Gloucester is blinded through his bastard son Edmund; reconciliation comes too late and ends with Cordelia's death.
