In a review by Konstantinos Pappis, The Quietus takes on "Loreless," the debut album by Amsterdam duo Pomelo. The record moves through a woozy, dark, anxious kind of pop: music of muffled sounds, trembling beats, close-up murmurs, and a mood suspended between intimacy and disorientation. The duo, Wynnm Murphy, who records ambient folk under that name, and Luke Elliott, each arrived with an independent path of blending organic and digital sound. Rather than building a clear narrative of who they are, the critic writes, Pomelo steps into a shadowed world where time hangs suspended and connections remain broken and unfinished. He notes affinities with Koreless, FKA twigs, and Tirzah, but stresses that "Loreless" at its best arrives at a voice of its own. The album's power lies in its blend of delicacy and hidden violence, where breath, body, word, and sound never separate, and the production feels sensual at the level of the breath, the eyes, and the tongue. For The Quietus, "Loreless" is an album about bewildering bonds: about desire, waiting, memory, forgetting, and the effort to truly hear another person. By the end, it passes through its opening haze, and Murphy's raw, delicate voice reaches a clearer presence in the here and now; as if Pomelo's first work finds its meaning not by explaining the band's past but by discovering its own voice.
