MUBI Notebook's Movie Poster of the Week column looks back at the posters of films shown at the 1976 New York Film Festival. The 14th edition ran from October 1 to 17 and presented eighteen features and eleven shorts. Its programmers included Richard Roud and Susan Sontag. François Truffaut's Small Change opened the festival and Eric Rohmer's The Marquise of O closed it. The lineup leaned heavily on European and especially French cinema, but it also included films from India, Hong Kong and Japan. The world premiere of Barbara Kopple's Harlan County U.S.A. was one of the festival's two sensations. The other was Nagisa Oshima's In the Realm of the Senses, which customs officers seized for alleged obscenity. Oshima's The Ceremony was shown in its place. A judge later ruled the film had been improperly detained, and it screened at MoMA in December. The columnist tried to find the most interesting poster for each film and could not locate one only for Fassbinder's Fear of Fear, which was made for television. The column notes that only Wim Wenders and Barbara Kopple survive among that year's filmmakers.

ستون Movie Poster of the Week در MUBI Notebook این بار به پوسترهای فیلم‌های جشنوارهٔ فیلم نیویورک در سال ۱۹۷۶ پرداخته است. دورهٔ چهاردهم جشنواره از ۱ تا ۱۷ اکتبر برگزار شد و هجده فیلم بلند و یازده فیلم کوتاه داشت. ریچارد راد [Richard Roud] و سوزان سانتاگ از جمله برنامه‌ریزان آن بودند. فیلم افتتاحیه «Small Change» ساختهٔ فرانسوا تروفو و فیلم اختتامیه «The Marquise of O» ساختهٔ اریک رومر بود. برنامه بیشتر اروپایی بود، اما فیلم‌هایی از هند، هنگ‌کنگ و ژاپن هم داشت. نخستین نمایش جهانی «Harlan County U.S.A.» ساختهٔ باربارا کاپل یکی از دو رویداد پرسروصدای جشنواره بود. رویداد دیگر «In the Realm of the Senses» ساختهٔ ناگیسا اوشیما بود که مأموران گمرک آن را به اتهام هرزه‌نگاری توقیف کردند و «The Ceremony» جای آن نمایش داده شد. قاضی بعدها توقیف را نادرست دانست و فیلم در دسامبر در MoMA به نمایش درآمد. نویسنده کوشیده برای هر فیلم جالب‌ترین پوستر را بیابد و تنها برای «Fear of Fear» ساختهٔ فاسبیندر پوستری پیدا نکرده است. به نوشتهٔ او از فیلم‌سازان آن دوره تنها ویم وندرس و باربارا کاپل زنده‌اند.
