Kavus Torabi Releases Solo Album “October by Name”

Kavus Torabi, the British guitarist, singer and songwriter of Iranian descent, released a new solo album, "October by Name", on October 2. In a feature published by Glide Magazine on October 5, Mike McMahan writes that the record has six songs, among them "Her Radiance", and runs about 37 minutes. Torabi is a veteran of British progressive rock, known for carrying on the music of the bands Cardiacs and Gong after the deaths of their founders, Tim Smith and Daevid Allen. He has fronted Gong and written most of its songs since joining in 2014. The article notes that his family is of Iranian origin, that he was abroad at the time of the 1979 revolution and can no longer return to Iran, and that relatives still live there. He was born in Tehran in 1971 to an Iranian father and an English mother and grew up in Plymouth. Among his influences he names King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Henry Cow, XTC, Sonic Youth and Syd Barrett. "I always love to be constantly surprised," he tells the magazine.
