Ireland's planning appeals board has overturned permission for a large data center in Killala, in the west of the country, ruling that the project conflicts with national climate policy. Novelist Sally Rooney, author of Normal People and a resident of the area, had formally objected to the plan, calling it a wasteful use of electricity in a climate crisis. The appeal itself was brought by another objector. Data centers now use nearly a quarter of Ireland's electricity.
