Zachary Lee of RogerEbert.com interviewed Lance Oppenheim, director of "Primetime", and two of its actors, Merritt Wever and Skyler Gisondo. The conversations took place over Zoom before the film's New York premiere and were combined into one piece. "Primetime" is Oppenheim's first fiction feature after several documentaries. It tells the story of the rise of the television show "To Catch a Predator" and its cancellation after an exposure went wrong. Robert Pattinson plays host Chris Hansen, Wever plays his producer Andie, and Gisondo plays Dan Plum, an actor hired as a decoy. Wever says she had come off a run of compassionate characters and needed a different register, and describes Andie as someone who is offered the chance to change her life and declines. Gisondo says his own years as a child actor made Dan's eagerness easy to grasp, and that Pattinson helped him copy his Hansen voice. Oppenheim says he thought of Hansen as an archangel figure who has unknowingly made a Faustian bargain, adding that "the man has become a meme".
