American Theatre’s latest episode of The Subtext features Brian James Polak in conversation with Andrea Stolowitz, an American German playwright and librettist. Stolowitz holds dual U.S. and German citizenship, the latter reclaimed through her Jewish ancestry. The conversation centers on her complex relationship with the idea of home, as her life is divided among New York, Portland, Berlin, and Ireland. Living across languages, countries, and historical memories has become an important part of her artistic world. Stolowitz previously studied Russian literature in Moscow and is currently working on a play titled Andrea Stolowitz Gets Yelled at by Jews in Lobbies, inspired by her experiences as a Jewish theatremaker and outsider in Cork, Ireland. Her plays include Knowing Cairo, The Berlin Diaries, and Numbered Be Our Days. She is a three time winner of the Oregon Book Award in drama, and her work has been developed or presented at theatres including Long Wharf, The Old Globe, Cherry Lane, and New York Stage and Film. The conversation presents Stolowitz as an artist for whom home is not only a place, but an ongoing question about language, ancestry, migration, memory, and writing.
Andrea Stolowitz Gets Yelled at by Jews in Lobbies از آثار شناختهشده او میتوان به Knowing Cairo، The Berlin Diaries و Numbered Be Our Days اشاره کرد. او سه بار برنده Oregon Book Award در بخش درام شده و آثارش در نهادهایی مانند Long Wharf، The Old Globe، Cherry Lane و New York Stage and Film
