Archaeologists at Karahan Tepe in southeastern Turkiye have uncovered an approximately 11,000-year-old stone sculpture showing a human figure seated on a leopard. The 70-centimeter work was found during the 2026 excavation season at one of the region's major early Neolithic sites. Researchers describe the composition as highly unusual and say the discovery adds to the complex symbolic imagery already known from Karahan Tepe and nearby prehistoric settlements.
