About this work

This is a short lyric poem in Persian. It addresses a grieving, wronged child and calls on a companion to fill a cup, apparently with the child's blood, so that the speaker may become drunk enough on wine's fervor to tell a story. The poem is brief and fragmentary, built around images of tenderness, injustice, intoxication, and storytelling, but it ends before that story is told.
