این پژوهش به بررسی جایگاه زنان بهعنوان نمایشنامهنویس و کارگردان در تئاتر غرب میپردازد. نویسنده نشان میدهد که زنان در طول تاریخ از عرصه تئاتر کنار گذاشته شدهاند و حتی پس از آنکه اجازه یافتند در اجراها شرکت کنند یا آثارشان را منتشر سازند، نقششان نادیده گرفته یا کماهمیت جلوه داده شده است. این مطالعه با تمرکز بر چهل نمایشنامه، میزان حضور زنان را در دوران معاصر بررسی میکند و نشان میدهد که نابرابری میان زنان و مردان در این حوزه تنها پیشرفت اندکی داشته است.
