CHI3L1 به دلیل نقشش در التهاب، بازسازی بافت و پاسخ ایمنی بهعنوان یک نشانگر زیستی ارزشمند در این بیماری شناخته شده است. پژوهشگران روشی تازه برای سنجش کمی این پروتئین طراحی کردهاند که میتواند در پایش روند بیماری و جلوگیری از تجمع سلولهای عصبی آسیبدیده در مغز مفید باشد.
