About this work

Chunhyangga is one of the five surviving Korean pansori, a sung narrative performed by one singer with a drummer. According to Wikipedia it is the longest of them, telling of the love between Chunhyang, a kisaeng's daughter, and Yi Mongryong, a magistrate's son, in Namwon. According to the Journal of Asian Studies, Ahn Sook-sun recorded it on the CD set The Song of Ch'unhyang (Samsung, Seoul, 1997) for the twentieth anniversary of the Korean Cultural Service in New York. Korea Britannica's Deep-rooted Tree LP collection also holds a complete performance alongside the other four pansori.
