A Doll's House
Author: Henrik Ibsen · 1879
About this work
Nora Helmer, the seemingly carefree wife of a newly successful lawyer, secretly borrowed money years ago to save her husband's life, forging her father's signature. A dismissed clerk, Krogstad, uses the secret to threaten her, and the household's calm unravels. When her husband Torvald learns the truth and cares only for his reputation, Nora realises she has lived like a doll in his house and decides to leave her husband and children to discover who she is.
