About this work
A play for bunraku puppet theatre based on a real event in Osaka. Tokubei, a shop clerk, is cheated by a friend who steals his money and brands him a thief; he and his lover Ohatsu, a courtesan, see no way out but to die together in the Sonezaki forest. The play founded the shinjū (love-suicide) genre in Japanese theatre.
نمایشی برای تئاتر عروسکی بونراکو بر پایهٔ رویدادی واقعی در اوساکا. تُکوبی، شاگرد مغازه‌ای، فریب دوستی را می‌خورد که پولش را بالا کشیده و او را دزد معرفی می‌کند؛ او و معشوقش اوهاتسو، که زنی درباری است، راهی جز مرگ مشترک در جنگل سونه‌زاکی نمی‌یابند. این نمایش گونهٔ «شینجو» (خودکشی عاشقانه) را در تئاتر ژاپن بنیاد نهاد.
