About this work

Attar of Nishapur's mystical poem: the birds of the world gather to find a king, and the hoopoe leads them in search of the Simorgh. They cross seven valleys and most fall by the way; at last thirty birds (si morgh) reach the court and discover that the Simorgh is themselves. Peter Brook and Jean-Claude Carrière turned the poem into a play in 1979.
