About this work

Persephassa, for six percussionists, was commissioned by the Shiraz Arts Festival and the French Ministry of Culture and premiered by Les Percussions de Strasbourg at Persepolis on 9 September 1969. The players stood in a hexagon around the audience on the column bases of the palace, so the sound travelled around the listeners. It is a landmark of Xenakis's spatial music.
