The Sheyda Ensemble with Shajarian: Golha-ye Tazeh and the Shiraz Arts Festival (1975–1977)
Author: Mohammad Reza Lotfi (director, Sheyda Ensemble), Mohammad Reza Shajarian (vocals) · 1976
About this work
Mohammad-Reza Lotfi formed the Sheyda Ensemble at Iranian radio in the 1970s, with the backing of Houshang Ebtehaj (Sayeh), to revive works by Saba, Darvish Khan, Aref and Sheyda in a small traditional line-up. Sheyda recorded Golha-ye Tazeh programmes with Shajarian and, under the supervision of Nour-Ali Boroumand and Dariush Safvat, performed the Nava and Rast-Panjgah dastgahs at the Shiraz Arts Festival. The collaboration is regarded as a starting point of the 'return' movement in Persian classical music before the revolution.
