About this work

Mortal Comedy is a musical, satirical and philosophical play based on Sadegh Hedayat's The Story of Creation and the tales The Matter Under the Bush and The Cuckoo Bird. In two separate acts it moves from the creation of man to social bonds, ideologies, love and tenderness, and the wars and conflicts of humankind, recast through Iranian theatrical forms with the author's own perspective. Act I was performed on Yalda Night at the invitation of the Fresno Iranian Cultural & Arts Association. Written in California in 2015; first published 2025. Performed in Persian with English surtitles.
