About this work

This article examines the 2016 film The Salesman by Asghar Farhadi, an adaptation of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman (1949), which received notably different critical responses in Iran and the West. Using a postcolonial approach informed by Homi Bhabha's theory, the author investigates the source of tension between these divergent critical discourses. The study explores Farhadi's adaptation in order to clarify the relationship between West and East in Iranian cinema, treating the adaptation as a form of mimicry. The text becomes incomplete before revealing its full conclusions.
