Abu ‘Abdollâh’ Jafar ibn Mohammad Rudaki (c. 880 CE-941 CE) was a poet to the Samanid court which ruled much of Khorâsân (northeastern Persia) from its seat in Bukhara. رودکی، شاعر دربار سامانی در بخارا (حدود ۸۸۰ تا ۹۴۱ می‌لادی)، نخستین شاعر بزرگ به زبان فارسی نو بود. او در دوری زندگی می‌کرد که پس از فتح عرب و استقرار اسلام، زبان عربی برای قریب دو قرن بر ادبیات سرزمین‌های فارسی‌زبان حاکم بود. رودکی با نوشتن اشعار پرتوان به فارسی، راه را برای ادب فارسی هموار کرد و به‌عنوان پدر شاعری فارسی شناخته می‌شود.
