داستانهای عاشقانه اغلب سفر و جابجایی را دربر میگیرند. در روایتهایی که به سوی عشق حرکت میکنند، "رمانتیسم" اغلب شامل برخورد با جاهای "غریب" و مردمانی متفاوت است. زمانی که تاریخ در چنین داستانهایی به کار میرود، خود گذشته به چیزی "دیگر" و غریب تبدیل میشود تا مقاصد رمانتیککردن را پیش برد. این روش روایتی تمام چیزها ـ پسزمینه، شخصیتها، لباسها، رسوم و خوردنیها ـ را به نمایش میگذارد تا "دیگری" لوکسدار و تکاندهندهای آفریده و تجربه را تقویت کند.
