A Study of the Life and Works of an Unknown Poet from the Shirvan Region of Azerbaijan

This is a scholarly article or entry about Halimi Shirwani, a little-known Persian poet from the early tenth century of the Islamic calendar. It covers the scattered biographical details recoverable from various tadhkiras and from his own poetry, noting that the scarcity of information has led biographers to confuse him with Halimi the lexicographer, author of Bahr al-Gharaib. Born in Shirwan in Azerbaijan, he travelled to Gilan and Qazvin before emigrating to Syria in middle age. His collected works contain more than six thousand five hundred and fifty verses, which until now have apparently remained unpublished or unstudied.
