این مقاله به بررسی و نقد دیدگاههای جنسیتی در توجیهات تعدد زوجات میپردازد. نویسندگان استدلال میکنند که بسیاری از دلایل ارائهشده برای چندهمسری ریشه در نگاههای تبعیضآمیز جنسیتی دارند و این نگاهها گسترده و فراگیر است. در مقابل، آنها میکوشند این دلایل را بر پایه طبیعت انسانی و مصالح اجتماعی بازتعریف کنند و نشان دهند که چنین رویکردی با عدالت جنسیتی سازگارتر است. برای تأیید این دیدگاه، به آیات قرآنی مربوط به اهداف ازدواج نیز استناد شده است.
