این مقاله به بررسی آواز فُکهای پلنگی نر (Hydrurga leptonyx) در فصل جفتگیری میپردازد. نرها زیر آب آوازهایی منحصربهفرد میخوانند که از ترکیب انواع صداهای مشترک در میان این گونه ساخته میشوند. پژوهشگران با استفاده از مفهوم آنتروپی اطلاعات، میزان تصادفی یا قانونمند بودن توالی این صداها را سنجیدهاند تا دریابند چه عاملی الگوی منحصربهفرد آواز هر فرد را شکل میدهد. این رویکرد میتواند درک ما را از ساختار ارتباط صوتی در پستانداران دریایی گسترش دهد.
