About this work
This is a brief prose passage, apparently a personal narrative or anecdote, in which a woman recounts that she was pregnant while travelling by ship on a pilgrimage to Mecca. When a contrary wind struck and the ship was wrecked, she survived by clinging to a plank, and it was on that plank, adrift after the shipwreck, that she gave birth to the child.
