About this work

An essay by Samad Behrangi placed at the start of Behrang's Stories. He argues that children's literature should not be limited to dry advice on cleanliness and obedience, which keeps children unaware of the great issues of the life around them. In his view children should be told about social realities, such as the poverty of children who go months without meat or cheese, and be given a hope based on knowing these realities and fighting them.
