A Study of Realism and Naturalism in the Poetry of Simin Behbahani and Contemporary Iranian Painting

This is a scholarly article that examines the poetry of the contemporary Iranian poet Simin Behbahani through the lens of realism and naturalism. The article argues that from the beginning of her career, Behbahani's verse was oriented toward harsh, sorrowful, and even repellent social realities. Using a descriptive and analytical method, the study surveys her collections Jaye Pa, Chelcheragh, Marmar, and Rastakhiz to demonstrate that across all four works she consistently strives to depict reality, and that her poetry displays the full range of characteristics found in realist and naturalist literary works.
