فاوست اثر یوهان ولفگانگ فون گوته نمایشنامه‌ای تراژیک در دو بخش است؛ بخش اول در ۱۸۰۸ و بخش دوم در ۱۸۳۲ منتشر شده. داستان با شرط‌بندی مفیستوفلس با خداوند آغاز می‌شود که ادعا می‌کند می‌تواند فاوست، دانشمند پیر، را به فساد بکشاند. فاوست می‌پذیرد در صورتی که مفیستوفلس لحظه‌ای چنان کامل برایش بیافریند که آرزو کند جاودانه بماند، روحش را به او بسپارد. آنچه در پی می‌آید سفری است از میان وسوسه، عشق، تراژدی و قلمروهای رمزآلود که مرزهای دانش و امیال بشری را به آزمون می‌گذارد.
