About this work
According to Aleks Sierz in The Arts Desk, after Nawal Marwan's death her twins Simon and Janine learn at the reading of her will that they must find the father they believed dead and a brother they never knew existed. According to Howard Loxton in the British Theatre Guide, their mother had been silent for five years before her death; Janine, a mathematician, sets off for the Middle East while Simon, a boxer, at first refuses. The play shows Nawal's life alongside: love at fifteen, a child taken from her, and her search for that child through a civil war. The secret of her silence comes out at the end, with no happy resolution.
