این مقاله به بررسی نقش ترجمه در ادبیات فارسی می‌پردازد. نویسنده استدلال می‌کند که ترجمه، برخلاف تصور رایج که آن را در مرتبه‌ای فروتر از اثر اصلی می‌داند، در دوره‌هایی از تاریخ چنان تأثیرگذار بوده که به الگویی برای ادبیات فارسی تبدیل شده است. این پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که ترجمه همواره پلی میان فرهنگ‌ها و زبان‌های گوناگون بوده و عناصر ادبی تازه‌ای را به زبان مقصد وارد کرده است.
