About this work

Borderlands is the tenth and final volume of the Music of Central Asia series from Smithsonian Folkways and the Aga Khan Music Initiative, in which the Chinese pipa player Wu Man joins Uyghur and Tajik musicians and singers. According to the Yearbook for Traditional Music, it was recorded in Beijing and Paris, and its fourteen CD tracks range from classical Uyghur and Tajik maqam to Kazakh and Hui folk tunes; the accompanying DVD adds three films and an instrument guide.
