About this work
L'Amour de loin is Kaija Saariaho's five-act opera to a French libretto by Amin Maalouf, based on the life of the twelfth-century troubadour Jaufré Rudel; it premiered at the Salzburg Festival on 15 August 2000 under Kent Nagano, directed by Peter Sellars. Jaufré falls in love with Clémence, Countess of Tripoli, from a Pilgrim's description, sails to meet her, and arrives gravely ill to die in her arms. Robert Lepage's 2016 Metropolitan Opera production, conducted by Susanna Mälkki, was the first opera by a woman at the house in over a century, and Nagano's recording won a Grammy in 2011.
«عشق از دور» اپرای پنج‌پرده‌ای کایا سآریاهو بر متن فرانسوی امین معلوف است که بر پایهٔ زندگی ژوفره رودل، تروبادور سدهٔ دوازدهم، نوشته شد و در ۱۵ اوت ۲۰۰۰ در جشنوارهٔ زالتسبورگ به رهبری کنت ناگانو و کارگردانی پیتر سلرز نخستین اجرا را داشت. ژوفره با شنیدن وصف کلمانس، کنتس طرابلس، از زبان یک زائر دلبستهٔ او می‌شود، به‌سوی او سفر می‌کند و بیمار به طرابلس می‌رسد و در آغوش او می‌میرد. اجرای روبر لوپاژ در اپرای متروپولیتن (۲۰۱۶) به رهبری سوزانا مالکی، نخستین اپرای زنی آهنگساز در این تالار پس از بیش از یک قرن بود، و ضبط ناگانو جایزهٔ گرمی ۲۰۱۱ را برد.
