About this work
Moussolou, meaning Women, is the debut album of the Malian Wassoulou singer Oumou Sangaré. According to Pan African Music, it was recorded in 1989 at JBZ Studios in Abidjan, came out in 1990 and sold over 250,000 copies; World Circuit issued it internationally in 1991 and reissued it in 2016. Its six songs, in Amadou Ba Guindo's minimal arrangements for bass, guitar, kamalé ngoni, karignan and violin, speak about forced marriage and the place of women in a conservative society.
«موسولو» به معنای «زنان»، نخستین آلبوم اومو سانگاره، خوانندهٔ مالیایی سبک واسولو، است. به نقل از Pan African Music این آلبوم در ۱۹۸۹ در استودیوی JBZ آبیجان ضبط شد، در ۱۹۹۰ به بازار آمد و بیش از ۲۵۰ هزار نسخه فروخت؛ ورلد سیرکیت آن را در ۱۹۹۱ برای بازار جهانی منتشر کرد و در ۲۰۱۶ بازانتشار داد. شش ترانهٔ آلبوم با تنظیم کمینهٔ آمادو با گیندو و با باس، گیتار، کامالِ نگونی، کرینیان و ویولن، از ازدواج اجباری و جایگاه زنان در جامعه‌ای محافظه‌کار سخن می‌گویند.
