About this work
Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame, written before 1365, is the earliest complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass attributable to a single composer. It has six movements for four voices rather than the then more common three, and it turns items separated in the liturgy into one artistic whole. Modern readings differ sharply, from the Oxford Camerata's clear one-voice-per-part account made in Reims Cathedral to the freely ornamented approach of Ensemble Organum and Graindelavoix.
«مس نوتردام» اثر گیوم دو ماشو پیش از ۱۳۶۵ نوشته شد و کهن‌ترین تنظیم کامل بخش‌های ثابت مراسم عشای ربانی است که می‌توان آن را به یک آهنگساز نسبت داد. این اثر شش بخش دارد و به‌جای سه صدای رایج آن زمان برای چهار صدا نوشته شده است؛ ماشو این بخش‌ها را که در مراسم از هم جدا بودند، به یک کل هنری یکپارچه تبدیل کرد. برداشت‌های امروزی از آن بسیار متفاوت است: از اجرای شفاف آکسفورد کامراتا با یک خواننده برای هر صدا در کلیسای جامع رنس تا تزئینات آزادانهٔ آنسامبل اورگانوم و گراندلاووا.
