About this work
April 13, 1975: Tarek and Omar, two teenagers from the Muslim side of Beirut, witness the massacre of the passengers of a bus as the Lebanese Civil War begins. With school closed, they and May, a Christian girl who lives near Tarek, roam the divided city with a Super 8 camera, treating the war as an adventure until the violence reaches their lives and families. Doueiri's first feature, it screened in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 1998 and won the FIPRESCI award at Toronto.
